Whether you are new to Woman of Noble Character or a long-time reader, it won’t take long to learn that I am a big supporter of dating your husband. When you set aside time just for the two of you to talk and reconnect, you are solidifying the bonds of your marriage.
Sometimes finding a night to set aside as date night can be a challenge, so I love that this month’s Date Night in a Box was a breakfast or rest theme. We chose to do it in the morning – something we had never thought of before, but with this month’s schedule jam-packed with commitments and travel, a breakfast date was perfect for us.
Each month, I share about a special date night that my husband and I enjoy. We love the Date Night in a Box dates and find that they are one of the highlights of our month.
This month, our box them was Love at Ease and the theme was all about rest. Rest? What? I have a to-do list six miles long and consider a night with eight hours sleep a luxury and you want me to focus on rest? Yep. And the folks at Date Night in a Box guide you through in a fun and yes, relaxing, way.
This month’s Breakfast Date “Love at Ease” box included:
- a date guide
- teas and coffees for sampling (with adorable mini cups!)
- two dice
- aromatherapy oil
- couple’s yoga cards
- Coffee Brew Buddy
- recipe card
- bonus laundry detergent sample
- coupon for discount on bacon (now who doesn’t love bacon?)
Each month, their website shares additional resources included a curated playlist surrounding the monthly theme and, for subscribers of their faith box option, a devotion and questions for discussion and study.
Our Breakfast Date Details
We started our date with reading “Table Talk” which introduces the date and the theme. I read it aloud while hubby teased me (he knows that relaxing is something that I struggle with, while he does it like he is shooting for the gold medal in rest!).
Next, we played “Easy Rollin'”, a fun dice game that had our competitive nature in high gear (definitely not resting here lol). For the record, hubby won, but I wouldn’t let him gloat.
From there, we enjoyed “Sip & Savor”. I’m a huge coffee connoisseur (or as my husband would say “coffee snob) and even mail order my coffee so I was anxious for this part of our breakfast date. The box included a Coffee Brew Buddy to brew your coffee and tea in minutes..this was awesome and perfect to bring along on road trips. We both really loved the Caramel Mudslide Coffee even though hubby isn’t usually one for flavored coffees.
The breakfast date night instructions include a link to a guided meditation to do while sipping your coffees and teas, but since we aren’t into meditation, we chose to use that time to pray with each other.
The next part of our breakfast date included a crossword puzzle to complete together (reminiscent of laying in bed on a Saturday morning enjoying a nice cup of coffee and doing the crossword puzzle).
Finally, we ended with the couple’s yoga. Now, while I don’t believe in practicing yoga with an eastern bent, yoga poses and exercises themselves are a healthy way to stretch and wind down. As one with moderate to severe arthritis, these really helped me.
To say that my husband is not flexible would be an understatement so we spent most of the time laughing while getting into the poses on the included couple’s yoga cards.
I love that Date Night in a Box included a link to a video for deeper instruction. We needed to refer to it for a few of these. As yoga beginners, we needed extra help.
We finished our date by cooking the recommended recipes including the safe and garlic breakfast sausage and buttermilk pancakes topped with cinnamon apples – oh my goodness – so delicious! Neither of us uses coffee creamer, so we left that recipe out.
One tip – when you plan your date night (or breakfast date), look at the recommended recipes and add any needed items to your shopping list for the week before. This way, you’ll have everything you need on hand for your special date.
What we love about Date Night in a Box (well, there’s a lot of things) is that the activities include both active (like yoga) and relaxing (such as tea tasting and a crossword puzzle) so that you can enjoy a variety of activities around a particular theme.
We always get excited when we see the email that our Date Night in a Box has shipped. As soon as we receive that notification, we go to the calendar to schedule our date night and look forward to it every month.
If you and your spouse are looking for something different for your date nights or you prefer to have them at home, you have to try the Date Night in a Box. My husband agrees that this is a small investment in our marriage that pays dividends.
What do you do for date nights with your spouse? Have you ever had a breakfast date?
Tell me in the comments. I’d love to hear about it!
