Jesus Calling: The Story of Christmas, My Review

If you’ve visited my blog before, you know that I am a voracious reader and my desire is to pass the love of reading to my grandchildren. More importantly, I want to pass the love of Jesus to them.  When I had the opportunity to review Jesus Calling: The Story of Christmas, written by Sarah Young and illustrated by Katya Longhi, I knew I needed to add this book to our family library.

Sarah Young, most known for her series of devotionals, Jesus Calling, wrote this beautiful retelling of Jesus’ birth to help children learn the real meaning of Christmas. Not Santa, not Christmas trees, not candy in a stocking, but the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ and his destiny to save us from our sins.

The book is beautifully illustrated by Katya Longhi in a colorful, detailed way.  Your children and grandchildren will love looking at the pictures of Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the animals and other Bible characters.

Children will learn, in a way that they can related to and understand, how Jesus’ birth was foretold and how He came to save the world.

While there are many other books retelling the story of Christmas and Jesus’ birth, few tell the story from the beginning of creation to how he died to save the world, as Jesus Calling: The Story of Christmas does.

When I sat down to read the book for this review, I read it out loud and my pup, Beckham seemed to be enthralled with it.

I promise that I won’t just read this book to my dogs, when the family gathers for Christmas, we will be making the reading of this book part of our family tradition.

I just can’t get enough of this book and will keep it in our family library to read to our grandchildren each year.

You can find the book at booksellers everywhere, including Amazon.  See below to enter to win a copy for your children or grandchildren.

The Christmas story began long, long ago. Before the angel Gabriel told Mary she would have God’s Son. Before the shepherds saw the angels and before the wise men saw the star.

Even before the sun and the moon shone for the first time, before the first cows ever moooed and the first monkeys ever climbed! Before Adam and Even took their first walk in the Garden of Eden, God had a plan for Christmas.

From the beginning of time, God had a plan to save his children. That plan was Jesus!
